Hotel Doña Maria is situated at the door step of the Cathedral, on the edge of Barrio Santa Cruz in the historical center of Seville. The Hotel has 64 rooms, each unique in it's decoration and dimensions, plus large common areas such as the central lobby with cafe, breakfast room, solarium and roof terrace with bar and swimming pool. The building is a former 14th century casa-palacio owned by Samuel Levi, advisor and confidant of King Pedro I, "The Cruel". So close were the advisor and the King that special underground tunnels connected the mansion with the Alcázar, the King's residence.  The hotel is rich with history, and during Moorish times in Seville the site was the location of Arab baths. For centuries the house served as a residence for many noble families and is currently the property of the Marquise de Joaquín. The hotel now bears the name of her great aunt, Doña María Sasiaín Aguirre. Some of the original paintings in the lobby have been moved to the Museum of Bellas Artes for permanent display. The design of the original facade of the hotel was the work of famous architect Juan Talavera Heredia, teacher of Anibal Gonzalez whose most famous work is the Plaza de España in María Luisa Park.  |
 Each room is individually decorated and distinct, with over half offering windows to the street of Mateos Gago or the plaza in front of the Cathedral. In the older portion of the hotel rooms make use of antique beds and furniture, while the newer sections are a mix of antiques and pieces specifically designed to blend with the old. The rooms on the upper floors facing the street offer plenty of natural light. Interior rooms are some of the most quiet and tranquil we've been in. Most bathrooms are large, including two sinks.  Perhaps the favorite place of guests in the hotel is the roof terrace with swimming pool and bar with a wonderful view of the Cathedral. The Hotel Doña Maria also offers a large breakfast buffet in the breakfast room.

Hotel Doña Maria is situated just 100 meters from the Cathedral, bordering the Santa Cruz neighborhood. All of the major monuments are a very short walk. For those wanting proximity to Seville's gothic Cathedral and the Alcázar there is simply no other hotel with a better location. The Cathedral and surrounding plaza are within view upon stepping outside of the hotel, and the Santa Cruz quarter just a minute's walk. We like the lobby which could serve as a museum, with a collection of paintings and decorative fans dating back centuries. The roof terrace has what we consider the best view of any hotel in Seville, and we have often paid visits to the bar at night to enjoy a drink beneath the lights of the Cathedral. During the warmer months the pool offers the possibility to cool off while contemplating the Cathedral and city center surroundings. For those interested in historic locations the Hotel offers an ideal setting. |
