HOTEL REY DE BAEZA

SURROUNDINGS OF THE HOTEL LAS CASAS DEL REY DE BAEZA

Hotel Rey de Baeza is located between the Puerta Carmona and Puerta Osario, two former gates of the old city wall. The hotel itself shares the Plaza de Jesús de la Rendición with the Iglesia de Santiago.

Turning left on calle Santiago is the Corral de Conde, one of most typical Sevillian style patios in the city. Many movies have been filmed here. The patio doors are typically open in the morning hours, but closed in the afternoon.

A view of the houses in calle Santiago as we follow the street towards the Santa Catalina neighborhood.

At the end of calle Santiago we find Bar La Cafeteria, well known for it's breakfast menu and fresh squeezed orange juice.

We find Santa Catalina Church just across the street. Like many churches in Sevilla, Santa Catalina church was formerly a mosque and contains a horseshoe shaped arch just inside the main door.

Just behind the Santa Catalina church we come across El Rinconcillo, Sevilla's oldest bar, founded in 1670. The atmosphere is famous and the tapas are very reasonably priced. A new restaurant, part of the same bar, recently opened on the floor above.

Just past El Rinconcillo is Plaza de los Terceros where several restaurants offer outdoor dining. We recommend La Huerta for it's original tapas, including many vegetarian dishes.

We turn back towards the Plaza de Juaregui behind the church where we find Horno San Buenaventura, a bakery serving pastries, bread, tapas and coffee. Also a good choice for breakfast.

A 5 minute walk towards the Puerta de Carmona leads us to calle San Esteban and Bodega La Extremeña, famous for grilled and cured meats as well as cheeses from the neighboring province of Extremadura. There is also a full service dining room located next door.

Crossing the Avda Menendez y Pelayo we find the ruins of a roman aqueduct just a few minutes away.

Turning around and heading back to calle San Esteban towards the Alfalfa is the Casa de Pilatos. Take advantage of the free entry on Tuesday's between 13:00 and 17:00 hours.
